Weeklong Intensive: Monday November 23 to Friday November 27

This is the highlight of the Sydney Ballet Intensive calendar!  A week filled with all things ballet and is open to dancers of all levels.  The first item on the ballet agenda on the Monday morning will be a grading class where dancers will be allotted into various levels by our specialist teachers.  Then the real fun begins! The content of the weeklong intensive is similar to that of the weekend intensives but is in much more depth. The timetable will differ each day with dancers being exposed to various teachers who have backgrounds as professional dancers, qualified ballet and pilates teachers, yoga teachers, specialist pointe shoe fitters and pointe preparation experts, ex-professional company members and specialist conditioning coaches.  Throughout the week various workshops will be held to give dancers a holistic experience and to allow the body some time to recoup!

There are several attendance options with this weeklong intensive.  You may choose to go all out and attend the full five days of ballet fun, or you may like to select several days or even just half days.  The options are endless and it allows you to tailor your own program suited to your level of experience.

RAD Preparation Week: Monday July 6 to Friday July 10
New to Sydney Ballet Intensive in 2015 is a weeklong RAD ballet examination preparation coaching clinic.  The grades on offer for coaching are RAD major examination grades from Intermediate Foundation through to the new Advanced Two.  These classes will be open to dedicated ballet students who wish to undertake a Royal Academy of Dance examination in the latter part of 2015.  The entirety of the syllabus will be covered throughout the week, with several days focusing on the variation component of the syllabus content.  Students enrolling in this week will also have access to private coaching.  All syllabus classes will be conducted by Lauren Hustler, Director of Sydney Ballet Intensive, who has extensive experience and an impressive track record in coaching RAD major examination students.  Students will also take classes with Rosie Schwartz from Dance Athlete who will guide students through specific strength and conditioning programs in order to achieve the peak muscle control and awareness necessary to achieve sound results in major examinations.  Please direct your enquiries about the RAD preparation clinic to sydneyballetintensive@gmail.com for more information.  The precise timetable and structure of the preparation clinic will be made available in early 2015.

Australian Ballet - November 2012

In the Australian Ballet's workshop we discussed and demonstrated the relationship between The Australian Ballet’s unique approach to conditioning and the classical dance technique it supports.

Supporting turnout
What is turnout?  What does turnout feel like?  Can I improve my turnout?  These are some of the questions dancers often ask.  In this workshop, The Australian Ballet’s Body Conditioning Specialist Paula Baird-Colt will cover some of the conditioning exercises The Australian Ballet uses to support turnout.

Lisa Howell - May 2012

We were very lucky to have the amazing Lisa Howell from Perfect Form physio and www.theballetblog.com join us for our May 2012 workshop. Lisa has a strong history in classical dance and is well respected both nationally and internationally for her work with young dancers, professional dancers and dance teachers.  Lisa’s focus is on education to prevent injury and maximise performance rather than stepping in only after an injury has happened.

At the 2007 IADMS conference her poster on pre-pointe assessment was joint winner of the award for the poster making "The Greatest Contribution To Dance Medicine".  Lisa is also a qualified instructor in The Pilates Method and has had extensive personal involvement in various forms of Dance and Yoga.

Throughout her professional studies and career she has continued her involvement with dance and uses her personal experience as a constant learning tool to advance her knowledge.  Lisa continues to develop programs to educate and inspire young dancers to become the best that they can possible be.
